  • Granulation is the process of collecting particles together by creating bonds between them. Bonds are formed by compression or by using abinding agent. If one were to make tablets from granulated sugar versus powdered sugar, for example, powdered sugar would be
difficult to compress into a tablet and granulated sugar wouldbe easy to compress
  • Wet granulation, the process of adding a liquid solution topowders, is one of the most common ways to granulate. The
process can be very simple or very complex depending on the characteristics of the powders, the final objective of tablet making, and the equipment that is available.
  • In a Fluid Bed, a product or solid is made fluid by an upward-moving flow of gas. The mechanical movement of the Fluid Bed strengthens this effect. Thus, the gas and product are intensively mixed, so that high heat transfer and an optimum physical reaction speed are achieved. By choosing a good combination of gas speed and mechanical movement , one can process granular products with a wide range of grain sizes successfully while forming a minimum amount of dust.
  • Fluid bed drying is one of the most efficient drying methods available. Advanced fluid bed technologies offer much more opportunities: By spraying liquids ontothe solids, a variety of innovative processes like granulation, agglomeration, coating and micro encapsulation can be realized.
  • Silica gel is produced synthetically from sodium silicate, which is a porous but granular form of silica. It is utilized as a desiccant or moisture adsorbent to manage humidity levels locally in order to avoid degradation of the goods
  • The principal desiccants used in
pharmaceutical applications are silica gel and molecular sieve. Silica gel is available in two main types: awhite, non-indicating version and one that changes colour when moisture is adsorbed. The latter is obviously useful to indicate when the desiccant is used up.
