Project at a Glance Contents on the CD ROM
  • Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid found in all cells, but is most concentrated in brain cells.
  • Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid nutrient found in fish, green leafy vegetables, soyabeans, and rice, and is essential for the normal functioning of neuronal cell membranes, activating protein kinase C (PKC), which has been shown to be involved in memory function.
  • Features :- Rapid and reliable method for detection of apoptosis, Flow cytometry test, Detection at single cell level, Distinction between apoptosis and necrosis
  • Applications :- Monitor cell death is important in a wide variety of clinical situations, Frequent application is monitoring cell death during tumor therapy
  • Health Benefits of PS in Human Nutrition :- For memory, For cognitive function, For depression,
    For ADDADHD, For sports endurance
  • Nutritional Role of PS :- PS, like other phospholipids, works to strengthen cell membranes and facilitates communication between cells. Studies in Europe have shown benefits for the mind and memory.
  • Other studies reveal that phosphatidylserine stimulates the brain to produce dopamine, therefore improving depression symptoms. Since reduced dopamine levels are possibly thought to be associated with attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), PS may have positive effects on these conditions.
  • Phosphetidylserine represents 10-20% of the phospholipid content in mammalian brains.
  • Phosphatidylserine is currently being studied in the areas of exercise-induced stress and mood enhancement.
  • Although humans can produce phosphatidylserine internally, it is primarily obtained through dietary sources. It is present in small quantities in most foods, and in larger quantities in soya and egg yolks.
  • Acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter restored by phosphatidylserine) was discovered in the 1920s, making it the first known neurotransmitter.
  • Storage :- Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Source :- Pure Encapsulations PS 100 contains 95-98% PS derived from soy. There is no detectable GMO material in this product. Hypo-allergenic plant fiber is derived from pine cellulose.
  • Recommendations :- Pure Encapsulations recommends 3 capsules per day, in divided doses, with meals.
  • PS can have beneficial effects on mood. In a double blind trial
conducted on elderly women, PS brought about consistent
improvement of memory and behavior. In an open trial, Manfredi’s group (1987) obtained statistically
significant improvement of various ‘psycho-organic’ parameters in
elderly women given 50 mg PS per day intramuscularlyHelps prevent hypertension.
  • Benefits :- Helps stop atherosclerosis, Boosts cell membrane health (such as myelin sheaths), Improves athletic performance, Helps age-related memory loss, Increases focus and improves learning, Lowers levels of stress hormone.
