- Itaconic acid, or
methylenesuccinic acid, is an organic compound that is one of the three
acids obtained by the distillation of citric acid.
- Itaconic acid is a
white crystalline powder that is soluble in water, ethanol and
acetone.
- The name itaconic
was devised as an anagram of aconitic.
- Itaconic acid
(C5H6O4 ) is an unsaturated dicarboxylic organic acid.
- The other two acids
formed from the distillation of citric acid are citraconic and mesaconic
acids.
- The terpolymer of
itaconic acid, acrylamide and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic
acid was synthesized through the free-radical polymerization.
- Hydrogels with
varying IA content were prepared from the ternary systems Nvinyl
2-pyrrolidone/itaconic acid/water by irradiating with gamma-rays in the
presence of a chemical cross-linker,ethylene glycol dimethacrylate
(EGDMA) at ambient temperature.
