Project at a Glance Contents on the CD ROM
  • Zinc nitrate is a highly deliquescent substance which is usually prepared by dissolving zinc in nitric acid.
  • It can be used as a mordant in dyeing.
  • An example reaction gives a precipitate of zinc carbonate: Zn(NO3)2 + Na2CO3 → ZnCO3 + 2 NaNO3.
  • Conditions/substances to avoid are: reducing agents, organic materials, metal powders, heat and flame, cyanides, sodium hypophosphite, tin(IV) chloride, phosphorus, thiocyanates, carbon, and sulfur.
  • Zinc nitrate is soluble in both water and alcohol.
  • Zinc forms zinc nitrate in reaction with nitric acid, but depending on the concentration of the acid it reacts differently:
  • 3Zn + 8HNO3 conc. → 3Zn(NO3)2 + 2NO + 4H2O
    4Zn + 10HNO3 dil. → 4Zn(NO3)2 + NH4NO3 + 3H2OZinc nitrate Zn(NO3)2 is a chemical compound used as a mordant in dyeing. It is also a source of zinc ions.
  • Zinc nitrate, a chemical compound used as a mordant in dyeing.
  • Zinc reacts with silver nitrate to produce silver and zinc nitrate.
  • 2Ag NO3 + Zn ---> Zn(NO3)2 + 2Ag
  • From the factorial design analysis of zinc nitrate, the main effect plot for adsorption shows that as temperature increases, the adsorption of Zn2+decreases, also as concentration increases, the adsorption of Zn2+decreases, also as pH value increases, the adsorption of Zn2+increases.
  • ZnO nanostructures were grown using aqueous solutions of
zinc nitrate (Zn(NO3)2 6H2O) and HMTA as precursors. The
reagents were dissolved in distilled water at room temperature, with the template solution being slowly added to the zinc solution under continuous stirring.
  • When the zinc nitrate molar
concentration was halved (keeping the HMTA concentration at 0.1 M), thinner and shorter nanorods were obtained.
  • Polyethylenimine was added to the zinc nitrate hexahydrate-hexamethylenetetramine aqueous solution during the deposition processes at 88 °C.
  • The formation mechanism of twin ZnO nanoarray assemblies was clarified by X-ray diffraction,
a field emission scanning electron microscope and high-resolution transmission electron microscope.
