  • Pentaerythritol is a white, crystalline odorless solid.
  • Pentaerythritol finds application in the manufacture of alkyl resin, synthetic rubber, printing inks, stabilisers for plastics, explosives, pharmaceuticals and synthetic lubricants.
  • Pentaerythritol can be converted to polyether. This compound is characterized by excellent corrosion resistance and high dimensional stability. It is being used in manufacturing of molding pipes, gears, valves and metal coating

  • Pentaerythritol is manufactured from formaldehyde & acetaldehyde using soda ash or acids in the place of soda ash
  • Pentaerythritol production using formic acid is more economical
  • There are a three main grades produced worldwide, the most commonly produced being penta mono grade. The other two grades are technical and nitration grade. The grade depends on the degree of purity, which is defined by the content of mono- and di-pentaerythritol. For example penta mono grade has a monopentaerythritol content of 98 % compared to 87 % in the technical grade.
  • Anti-dumping Duty on Pentaerythritol was imposed on products originating in or exported from the People's Republic of China and Sweden as it caused material injury to Indian Manufactured products in april 2006
  • Global Demand growth is forecast at 4 % per year till 2011
  • Investment of about 5 Crores will be required to set up a plant of capacity 500 tons per year
