  • Heptylamine is a colorless liquid and Air sensitive.
  • Based on their chemical and spectral properties, the proposed structure of phascoline is N-(3- guanidinopropionyl)-2-hydroxy-n-heptylamine, and
    that of phascolosomine is N-(3-guanidinoisobutyryl)-2-methyoxy-nheptylamine.
  • Biogenic amines (heptylamine, putrescine, cadaverine, histamine, tyramine, and spermidine) can lead to scombroid food poisoning if levels become
    too high.
  • All standard amine mixtures were prepared using HPLC grade water (Burdick & Jackson, Muskegon, MI) and a Nalgene chemical-resistant propylene 50 mL volumetric flask.
  • The propyl chloroformate derivatization method employed for the biogenic amines heptylamine, putrescine, cadaverine, histamine, tyramine, and spermidine, was successful for trace level quantitation.
  • Heptylamine can be prepared in satisfactory yields from a large number of aliphatic ketones with only a slight modification of the experimental conditions.
  • The reaction of heptylamine with 1-bromopropane afforded the three-component joining product in a 61% yield after 2 h.
  • The usefulness of dry silica gel both as a reaction medium and a reagent may be illustrated by the technically simple synthesis of dihydrojasmone using n-heptylamine as a starting material.
