• An annual investment of about (Rupees) 50,000 per hectare (about U.S. $1,000) over four years potentially could lead to 40 million tons/year of biodiesel production, nearly equaling India's entire petroleum diesel demand today (42 million tons/year).
• Non-edible-oil biodiesel could be produced at around 14.5 Rupees/liter (U.S.$ 1.13/gallon), or up to Rs. 18/liter ($1.40/gal.) in a drought year, still considerably more expensive than petro-diesel at Rs. 10/liter (75 cents/gallon, assuming $28/barrel crude).
