Project at a Glance Contents on the CD ROM
  • Quinalphos is broad-spectrum, high-effective, low residue, organo-phosphorous insecticide with good contact and stomach poisoning to eats.
  • Quinalphos is presently used in different formulations such as emulsion concentrates, granules and dust.
  • Quinalphos (O,O-diethyl O-quinoxalin-2-yl phosphorothioate), a non-systemic organophosphorus insecticide is being effectively used to control the attack of Plutella xylostella on cauliflower.
  • With the restricted use of most of the organochlorine insecticides, due to their long persistence in the environment, the organophosphorus
compounds are taking the major share of insecticides consumption in India.
  • Organophosphate pesticides have been used extensively in agriculture as replacement chemicals for organochlorine pesticides as they are more rapidly biodegradable than the more persistent chlorinated compounds.
  • Quinalphos (O,O-diethyl-O-quinoxalinyl phosphorothioate) is one of the most widely used organophosphorus insecticides in agriculture, and is applied to control of incidence of pests over crops such as cotton, tea, citrus and rice.
  • Quinalphos (25% EC) was procured from the local market of Dharwad, Karnataka, India, supplied by Hyderabad Chemical Supplies Limited,
    Hyderabad, India.
  • Many methods have been developed in the last few years for the detection of organophosphorus pesticides. The most widely used methods are gas
chromatography (GC) , high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) , gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS), immune assay and fluorescence.
  • Increase in the consumption of pesticide is likely to be atleast two to three times more in the years to come. However, there has been a considerable qualitative and quantitative change in pesticide use in the last few years worldwide and in India as well.
