  • Imazethapyr acts by inhibiting the enzyme acetohydroxy acid synthase (ALS).

  • Imazethapyr is a selective systemic herbicide. It is registered for preplant, pre-emergence or postemergence use on terrestrial food and/or feed crops.

  • Imazethapyr may be used alone or in co-formulation with imazamox or pendimethalin to control a broad spectrum of broadleaf and grassy weeds. It is applied once per year at a rate of 10 to 100 g a.e./ha by ground equipment only.

  • It is used in crops like corn, oil seed rape and vegetables.

  • Imazethapry became an important herbicide in regions with intensive soybean production, pre-dominantly in North and Latin America.

  • Imazethapyr is an imidazole compound used as a selective herbicide. It is applied preplant incorporated, preemergence, at cracking, and postemergence.

  • Imazethapyr is readily absorbed by roots and leaves, translocated in both symplast (phloem) and apoplast (xylem), and accumulated in mersistematic tissue.

  • Imazethapyr is a general use pesticide with a toxicity classification of III (slightly toxic).

  • Imazethapyr belongs to the imidazolinone family of herbicides which demonstrate a very low toxicity profile in mammals due to a plant-specific mode of action.

  • Human exposure to imazethapyr from residues in treated crops and drinking water.

  • Imazethapyr is currently used in imidazolinone-resistant (IR) rice (Oryza sativa) as the primary herbicide for the selective control of red rice (Oryza sativa) (a weedy biotype of commercial rice) and several other weeds.

  • Imazethapyr has become a
popular herbicide in this area because it is effective against most winter anImazethapyr has become a popular herbicide in this area because it is effective against most winter annuals, especially some previously hard-to-control weeds such as little mallow and members of the mustard family (Brassicaceae).
